Brooklyn Storm vs. NY Raiders recap.

The final game of the of the BNEFF opening weekend pitted two brand new teams to the league.

The game began with the Raiders receiving the opening kickoff and getting a good return into Storm territory. After gaining two first downs on the ground using their big running back and  short passes, the Raiders got into the redzone but the Storm defense held and a false start penalty made the Raiders attempt a field goal. The Storm blocked the kick and took over the ball at their own 30 yd line. After a 3 and out the Storm punted.

The first quarter ended with no score. But on the Raiders second possesion of the 2nd quarter they caught the Storm defense sleeping and hit on a 40 yd pass play that put them at the Storm 13 yard line. The Storm defense held but on 4th down the Raiders dumped the ball off to their runningback and he took it in for a 6-0 lead. They missed the extra point. After the kick off the Storm responded with a drive of their own mostly on the ground behind the strong running of #3 RB Eric Johnson and #11 RB Reggie Mcknight.

The Storm got into FG range but a botched hold cause them to miss the attempt. The half then ended with the Raiders on top 6-0.

The 2nd half  began with the Storm getting a good return by #16 Vernon McLucas to the 50 yard line. After a couple of good runs the Storm hit with a pass of 25 yards to veteran receiver and team owner #81 WR Disco which set them up at the 13 yd line. Two plays later they punched it in from 11 yds out with a fullback dive to #84 Jerry Avila. The two point attempt was no good so the score was now 6-6.

The Storm defense then forced a quick three and out and forced the Raiders to punt. The snap was a bit high and the punter could not handle the snap. The Storm punt rush came through and DE Jerry Avila scooped up the ball, shook off a few Raider tackles and rumbled 43yds for the TD. The two point conversion was successful with #11 McKnight taking it in.

After the score the Storm defense  held strong led by #40 MLB Mike James and DT Gino Reese. They held the Raider defense to only three first downs the entire 2nd half not including penalties. They constantly harrased the quarterback and shut down the Raiders running game. They completely shut out the raiders in the 2nd half.

It was a good game all around by both teams. The Storm started out slow but picked it up in the 2nd half and are happy with the victory but they must now prepare to go on the road to take on the Empire and Gridiron champs the NY Spartans.
